The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Competes Against the 2022 Ford F-250

Shopping for a new heavy-duty truck in Paradise, PA? You'll want to do your research before choosing one. At first glance, it might seem an easy decision, since there are only a few options on the market. However, these options can start to blend together, if you're not careful, so we wanted to highlight some of the key areas where our 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 trucks at Keim Chevrolet, Inc. differ from a competitor like the 2022 Ford F-250.

Engines and Overall Performance

When you're shopping for a 3/4-ton truck, you know you want a powerful engine for your work around Paradise, PA. Fortunately, it's hard to go wrong in this respect. Both the Silverado 2500 and the F-250 offer some great powertrain options, 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains and towing capacities over 18,000 pounds.

While Ford boasts of having best-in-class ratings in categories like payload, you would have to equip your F-250 in a very specific way to achieve this. Notably, the F-250 comes with the choice of three engines, but this is because its standard engine isn't all that powerful. This 6.2-liter engine only produces up to 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while the Silverado 2500's standard 6.6-liter engine can give you up to 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque for about the same price.

One other thing worth noting is that many customers have found the Silverado 2500 easier to handle on the streets compared to the Ford F-250. According to J.D. Power, the Silverado 2500's steering and handling was one of the top highlights during customers' first 90 days of ownership, while it was actually one of the biggest problem areas for the F-250. J.D. Power also predicts a resale rating of 94 out of 100 for the Silverado 2500, compared to only an 85 out of 100 for the F-250.

Interior

In many respects, you'll likely have the same experience in either truck's cabin. Both come with cloth seating standard, with options to upgrade to vinyl or leather upholstery on higher trims. You can also choose between a regular, double - called "Super" on the Ford truck - and crew cabs, which generally add about the same amount of space for extra passengers.

However, taller drivers in the Paradise, PA area will likely prefer the space offered in the Chevy Silverado 2500. While the rear seating of the double and crew cabs has measurements within an inch of each other, the front seats are quite different between these two models. You'll have about 2 inches of extra headroom and a little over half an inch of extra leg room, which can make a big difference for taller individuals, especially on longer drives.

Technology

The days of a barebones work truck are almost over. In today's age of advanced technology, you should be able to expect some basic things from your next truck, like a decent touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Strangely, this isn't something you'll get with the Ford F-250. The Silverado 2500, however, does come with these, offering a 7-inch touchscreen on the WT and Custom trims or an 8-inch touchscreen on higher trims.

Safety

Both trucks offer their fair share of safety features standard, like airbags, a rearview camera and stability control. You'll also have driver-assist features available on both trucks, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

There is one notable difference if you plan to let your young driver take your truck anywhere, and that's Chevy's Teen Driver system. This system allows you to set limitations on certain features or automatically enable certain safety systems based on which key fob is used to start the car. You can also view a report card on driving habits to help you coach your young driver.

Both the Chevy Silverado 2500 and Ford F-250 bring a lot to the table, but Chevy offers a lot of value that the F-250 is missing on its base trims. If you choose to opt for the higher trims, they become more comparable, except that the F-250's top trims start at prices $4-20,000 higher than the Silverado 2500's top trim.
